Day 4 — Travel from Tromsø to Lofoten
Option 1 — Hurtigruten or Havila Coastal Voyage
Recommended Winter Route
For winter travel, the coastal voyage aboard Hurtigruten or Havila is often the most comfortable and scenic option.
Board the ship after midnight in Tromsø and book a private cabin for the overnight voyage. Spend the following day sailing south through Vesterålen, Raftsundet and Trollfjord before arriving in Svolvær late in the evening.
Although the journey takes most of the day onboard, it is widely considered one of the most scenic winter coastal voyages in Norway and functions almost as an Arctic fjord cruise through Northern Norway.
Use the port-to-port booking system directly with Hurtigruten or Havila.
Option 2 — Express Boat via Harstad
Take the morning express catamaran from Tromsø to Harstad before continuing south by bus toward Lofoten.
The route creates a scenic connection through fjords, islands and Arctic coastal landscapes while allowing travelers to arrive in Svolvær by afternoon.
Compared with the overnight coastal ship, this option is faster and works well for travelers prioritizing additional time in Lofoten itself.

Day 5 — Winter Experiences in Lofoten
Winter transforms Lofoten into a dramatically different landscape where fishing villages, mountains and fjords meet Arctic winter light and rapidly changing weather.
One of the most rewarding ways to experience Lofoten during winter is from sea level.
Recommended Experience
Traditional fishing culture remains deeply connected to life in Lofoten, and spending time along the harbor areas and fishing villages creates a very different experience from summer travel.
Spend the evening exploring Svolvær or nearby coastal villages beneath the winter sky.
Day 6 — Trollfjord & Arctic Winter Landscapes
One of Lofoten’s most iconic winter excursions is exploring Trollfjord and the surrounding fjords by sea.
Recommended Experience
Winter conditions create dramatic contrasts between steep mountain walls, snow-covered peaks and narrow fjord landscapes, while sea eagle sightings are common along the route.
Compared with summer, winter in Lofoten often feels quieter, slower and more atmospheric. The rapidly changing Arctic light itself frequently becomes one of the highlights of the journey.
Spend your final evening enjoying the harbor atmosphere, restaurants and winter scenery around Svolvær.
Day 7 — Departure
Departure from:
-
Svolvær Airport
-
Leknes Airport
-
Evenes Airport via bus transfer
depending on onward travel plans and flight schedules.
Optional Extension: Harstad & Hinnøya
Travellers departing from Evenes Airport may choose to extend their journey with one or two nights in Harstad and the surrounding Hinnøya region.
The area offers Northern Lights experiences, Arctic coastal landscapes, local food experiences and a quieter pace than many of Northern Norway’s larger winter destinations.
